First day in Amsterdam

Our stop in Amsterdam wasn't on our original itinerary but was really a self-enforced layover of sorts.  Our goal was to shake off the jet lag and stroll around the city a bit.  That being said, I was very interested in seeing as much of the old city as I could because it represents a very important place in world history.  Sadly the weather didn't cooperate much with a constant blanket of grey darkening our entire stay (but we did feel right at home coming from Portland).

We arrive at the historic Amsterdam Wiechmann Hotel (pronounced "week-MON" I'm told) too early to check in so we leave our bags with the proprietor and set out to explore right away.

I've more to say about Amsterdam but I'm going to work on posting the photos from Italy as it was the impetus for the trip.  The whole Amsterdam gallery can be found here Travel Blog:  Amsterdam.
